Dear Colleagues:

What a year we had in 2006-2007. Under Rich Dapcic’s leadership, we continued our Platinum award status due to a wide array of training opportunities, networking events, university presentations, and special activities.

More specifically, under Rich’s leadership, the chapter offered 8 workshops and luncheons, each of which provided 7 CPE credits. 500 to 700 members attended these workshops and luncheons. Our annual seminar gets bigger every year. In March, close to 250 attendees heard Time magazine’s Woman of the Year, Sharon Watkins, talk about her experience in audit at Enron. We offered 6 free business and industry events due to the efforts of our professional partners. Nine Audit Executive Roundtables were offered, providing a forum for chief Audit Executives to discuss common issues facing the profession. Our chapter hosted CIA training courses in October and May, and presented certificates to 72 new CIA’s and CFSA’s. We conducted 9 presentations to students at local colleges and participated in 5 job fairs. To further the status of our profession, a new Internal Audit Program was launched at Baruch and we are under discussion for the same at Pace. We awarded two interns $1500 scholarships and donated funds to the Internal auditing Academic Achievement Fund. On June 8, 2007, we capped it all off with our Awards Dinner. Close to 150 members attended the recognition event. Over 26 committees and 50 volunteers contributed to the long list of achievements. Our evening culminated in the recognition of Rich for his leadership in 2006-2007. I want to thank Rich personally for his even tempered guidance and his tireless efforts. Our continued status as a Platinum Award chapter is in no small part due to his personal volunteer efforts.

Now onto 2007-2008! We are off and running. During June we had three events.

  • June 14th – Audit Directors Roundtable – Mark Arning facilitated this session which included a discussion on Fraud with Ariel Ramirez, National Practice Leader from the DC office of Solomon and Edwards. I would like to thank Mark for leading and hosting these sessions and for volunteering to do so again in 2007-2008.
  • June 22nd – Organizational Meeting – At this meeting the Executive Officers discussed the mission and themes for the chapter year. Various committees and their respective goals were also discussed and the training programs for the upcoming year were announced. The financial budget was approved. We are always looking for new volunteers and welcome any support. You can contact me or any member of the executive committee. Our contact information is on the website.
  • June 23rd – The IIA Eastern Regional conference – This meeting allows chapter leaders from all over the region to share ideas and discuss new activities. This years conference was held in Philadelphia and was hosted and organized by our own Mike Fucilli and our new District Representative, Marian Dougherty, the New York chapter’s former President. Congratulations to Marian in her new role.

Our annual training and baseball outing will occur August 15th. Jay T. Simmons, Chairman, and Anne M. Simmons, CEO, Board Advisory Services, Inc. will present a session on “Using Fraud Investigation as an ERM Tool”. The training will be conducted from 9-11AM in the auditorium at Calyon, 1301 Avenue of the Americas, 19th Floor. Following the training we will head to Yankee Stadium for a 1:05 opening pitch. Seats are limited so register today.

Our 2007-2008 workshop/luncheon committees have finalized an outstanding program for the year. The first workshop is early this year; September 7. Ed Robinson will conduct the all day workshop on Project Management Skills for Auditors. Ed is a sought after speaker and trainer and we look forward to his session. Neil White will be our luncheon speaker. Neil is a Partner in the Audit and Enterprise Risk Services group for Deloitte and Touche and he will be discussing current SOX trends. As usual, discount packages are available through our subscriptions. If you are interested in subscriptions, please contact Bill Morello at 212-576-7745. Remember to mark your calendar for September 7.

Additional information regarding the baseball outing and the workshops and luncheons for the chapter can be found later in this newsletter and on the website.
We are off to a get start. Once again, thank you to Rich Dapcic for his leadership and have a great summer.
