Dear Colleagues:

When will Fall be upon us? As I write this, the leaves are turning all different colors but it is almost 80 degrees again. Oh well, the holiday season is around the corner and we have many training and networking opportunities for you to take advantage of.

Here are highlights of our activities in October. During the first week of October, we provided a review course for the CIA examination which will be held in November. Twenty two people attended training for one or more parts. We had a great workshop on October 12 with over 75 people in attendance. Jay Ranade provided training on Auditing Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans. All workshop attendees received 7 CPE credits. Our luncheon speaker, Uday Gulvadi spoke to us about Managing the Risk of Growth. We had the privilege of handing out 15 certificates earned by our members in the last examination. Overall 33 New York IIA members were newly certified in that exam. Mark Arning hosted the second General Auditors Roundtable on October 25 at New York Life. The next one is scheduled for November 15.

We have great programs planned for the rest of the year. Here is a peek at some upcoming events.

  • Our next workshop will be on November 16th. John Hall will provide guidance on “Fraud Issues and Answers: The Auditor’s role in Fraud prevention, Detection and Handling”. Our workshop and luncheon will be held at the Club Restaurant at Madison Square Garden. Our luncheon speaker is Garry Goodall from Ernst & Young. He will talk to us about Continuous Auditing. Register early! Discount packages are still available through our subscriptions. If you are interested in subscriptions, please contact Bill Morello at 212.576.7745. Remember to mark your calendar for November 16th.
  • The CIA Examination will be held on November 14th and 15th at the Park Central Hotel. This will be the last onsite testing with the rollout of Computer Based Testing in February 2008. If you want more information about the November 2007 examination or the changes in 2008, please go to theiia.org.
  • On November 14th, we are planning a business and industry event hosted by Deloitte & Touche. The session is focused on Senior Women Executives who will discuss the benefits of working and their positions. Cocktails will be served afterwards and there is room for 80 attendees. Please see the website for more details and the brochure.
  • Also in late November, the Special Events Committee is planning a joint meeting with ISACA with Emotional Intelligence and its effect on Leadership as the topic. Again watch the website for more details.
  • Finally, our December workshop and luncheon are planned for December 7. This is earlier than our normal monthly meeting but we know how the holidays can take over later in the month, so mark your calendar for that day.

I look forward to greeting you at these upcoming events.
